Daylilies are many gardeners' favorite plants. They are dependable perennials, colorful bloomers, relatively free of pests, immune to heat stress, grow in sun or light shade and grow well in all areas of South Carolina. My kind of plant. So I went to a daylily lecture by Billy Dick, owner and operator of Peachland Dayliliy Garden in Fort Valley, GA. He started out by saying…Watch out. Daylilies are addictive! Little did I know how right he was. Of course, it helped that I went home with a beautiful blooming daylily called "Uncle Bryan", deep red with a yellow star center, that I won as a door prize. When I got home, I immediately planted "Uncle B" and proceeded to organize my future daylily garden with the few plants I already have. Next year I can divide them and revitalize them and have more daylilies. I’m hooked. The American Hemerocallis Society has a website www.daylilies.org where you can find out about groups in all regions promoting the development and improvement of the genus. Beware…Daylilies are addictive.
